A downloadable fan game for Windows

One year ago, your gym leader title was revoked and you were forced into an early retirement. But now, an old friend from the Hallio region has reached out to you about an opportunity to become a gym leader again in his region. Discover what secrets await you in the Hallio region!

~~ ❀ ~~ ❀ ~~ ❀ ~~

Pokémon Blooming Beast is a plot-focused fan game that still offers the traditional Pokémon experience. It includes:

  • A fully-fledged conversation system with dynamic dialogue that reacts as you learn more
  • An original region to explore
  • Gen 9 content
  • A difficulty curve geared towards experienced fans without being Kaizo levels of punishing
  • Over 170 expressive talksprites
  • A diverse regional dex
  • Modified pseudo-legendary starters (yes, including Togepi!)
  • New regional variants and Pokémon
  • HMs usable from the PC, and other quality of life features
  • Witty and charming writing alongside an engaging plotline
  • And more!

~~ ❀ ~~ ❀ ~~ ❀ ~~

Woah, what's this "conversation system" in the bullet points above?

I'm so glad you asked, theoretical person! As you meet new characters, you'll have the option to ask them about themselves, the history of the region, their opinion on other characters, and more! As you learn more, either through these interactions or by progressing through the game, the options you can ask each character will expand. Exploring these options will make characters more likely to sponsor you in your goal of becoming a gym leader, while also offering clues to piece together a dark secret that preys upon the Hallio region.

Okay that's cool, but what if I just want to play it like a normal Pokémon game?

That's fine, too! These conversation options are just that: options. You can still get a complete experience (at least up to gym 3, for now) without them.

~~ ❀ ~~ ❀ ~~ ❀ ~~

Version 0.2.4 is a playtester demo that goes a little past the third gym. It has an estimated playtime of five hours. Included in the game is a link to a playtester survey. This survey is optional, but recommended. It is the best way to support the game.

This is the second of four major updates planned for the game:

Update 1: Hallio Lowlands (released)
Update 2: Coreop Canyon (released)
Update 3: Hallio Highlands Part 1 (in progress)
Update 4: Hallio Highlands Part 2 (not started)

The game includes both parts 1 and 2, which flow seamlessly into each other.

I read that nothing is shinylocked and shinies are 1/4096. Will there be ways to method hunt besides Masuda?

(1 edit)

Maybe. There is an NPC ingame who trades you a foreign Ditto for Masuda Method, so that hunting method is possible.

Shiny Charm is technically in the game, but requires 213 Pokemon in the dex (the max at this point in the game), including stuff like Hydeigon. Part 3 will similarly have the Charm available for the max number of available Pokemon, but will be much easier to get since the player should naturally be in the mid-60s by the end of Part 3 and better grinding areas are available.

I've been toying around with a new shiny hunting method that would be unique to Blooming Beast, but that would probably be introduced in Part 4.

Sick! Just a tip, do NOT make odds insanely high without some huge drawback, like Herba Mystica being rare but useful.  Perhaps you could use something like an item that can be used every hour to get an extra roll for some amount of time.

Hey my friend and I have been loving this game so far but we haven't been able to figure out how to access the 'boxes'.

You can access them anytime from your party menu by pressing D. The traditional way of accessing the PC in the Pokemon Center also works.

I want to ask do shiny pokemon spawn naturally in the current game or is it only the one for now

(1 edit) (+1)

Shiny Pokemon are in the game and have the standard full odds of 1/4096. Nothing is shiny locked, and the starters will appear shiny on the selection screen like in HGSS if you want to go for those. Masuda Method also works; there's an NPC who trades you a foreign Ditto.

Thank you for the reply. I also want to ask if you maybe can tell us if there is an estimated time for when the next update will be out.

Right now I'm aiming for late December, but that might be a bit too optimistic. I post updates and sneak peeks regularly on our Discord server, if you'd be interested in joining: https://discord.gg/2FUqPaSvfs

Thank you i will join the server now.

I have been planting a lot of berries since I started, but none of them seem to sprout. Will they ever sprout?

The berries came built-in with the kit I'm using to make the game, but I haven't tested the berry growing system to make sure it's working properly. I'll be sure to look into that.

Thank you for telling me about the berry.

I've had the game downloaded for more than a day now, and have played for almost 12 in game hours, and no berries have sprouted, though I have been watering them. To be extra sure, I also messed around with my computer's internal clock. Moving it forward six hours, 12 hours, 24 hours, a week, a month. The day night cycle shifted with my computer's internal clock, but berries never grew.

So I think they just won't?

Hello. Having so much fun with this game so far, it's amazing how much polish there is. So much ease of use too, even though it's harder than most pokemon games I've played.

I wanted to report a bug though. Aerial Ace from the second Gym Trainer's Sneazel. And Aqua Jet from Clauncher. Both times, they used that attack over and over again endlessly until my active pokemon fainted. I am not 100% sure, since I wasn't able to screenshot it at the time, but I think it happened after I tried to use confusion with my furret. Both times it happened, it was definitely when I was using Furret.

Will definitely be following this going forward!

So they attacked repeatedly on the same turn and then stopped once your Furret fainted? Did you give it a Rocky Helmet? I've had issues with contact-related effects before, If not, please let me know your Furret's full moveset.

Thanks for reporting this issue. I'm glad you're enjoying the game otherwise :)

It was not wearing a rocky helmet. It might have been holding onto that berry that inflicts damage to the enemy when the holder is damaged? The one that starts with a J. But that berry didn't activate while I was playing.

Yes, they used one move, and then they used it again, infinitely, until my Furret fainted. It happened on multiple different occasions during a turn I went to use confusion. But it also happened with other moves at least once.

Oh yeah, that berry in particular is bugged. It's a shame because I added it as a joke since it's such an obscure item, only to find out it wasn't coded properly. That'll be fixed in the next update, whenever that comes out.

I see the note of Gen 9 content... Can someone please tell me if Charcadet is available?

It's not, sorry. There's a bunch of other Gen 9 Pokemon available, though.

Thank you very much. Disappointing but understandable

Thanks for all the hard work its great

Where is the new thing?

I had to delay it by a couple days, sorry. It'll be up tomorrow.

It's here!

l find a bug ,when  I use the potion, I will exit the game.

and, using the revive also has a bug

Yeah, found that bug not long after uploading this. I want to do a full, comprehensive playtest to make sure no other bugs got through, but I should have a patch ready within the next 24 hours. Sorry about that!

A question: Will my data from Pokémon Blooming Beast v0.1.2 be saved onto future versions(I just don't want to lose my 6+ hours of grinding on a test version)?

(Please give me updates, I added you on discord, user is malon#3330)

Yes, progress will be automatically carried over between versions.

I'm not sure if I'm patching the playtest correctly, so can I ask what ROM to use when patching?

It's not a ROM, it's an executable. No emulator required. Just run the Game.exe file.

It was developed using Pokémon Essentials, which is a recreation of Pokémon's core mechanics in RPG Maker. No ROMs involved.

Ohhh, thanks!

Good introduction for a playtest and the region has an interesting set-up with the various sections.
